About Craigieburn - Summer

Distance from Christchurch Airport: 106km, approximately 1.5 hours

The Craigieburn ski field transforms when the snow melts: it welcomes summer bookings from 1 November to 1 May, offering a completely different alpine experience compared to its winter operations.

The lodges stay open, nestled amid lush native beech forest and crisp mountain air—an ideal escape for anyone seeking serenity in a secluded alpine environment.

Activities & Attractions
The snow turns into lush forest and rugged terrain—perfect for two adventurous pursuits:

  • Mountain biking: Riders can explore thrilling tracks through a mix of terrain, all set against sweeping alpine backdrops.
  • Walking & hiking: A variety of scenic alpine walks unfold here, offering peaceful, panoramic nature experiences.

Summer stays at Craigieburn are all about unplugging—there are no crowds, just tranquillity. Guests can enjoy waking to birdsong, peaceful surroundings, and unbeatable views. It’s the ski field experience—minus the snow.

A unique mountain getaway

Craigieburn has two lodges – Koroheke and Matuhi nestled away just below the tree line.

Relax on the mountain with spectacular views across the valley.

Craigieburn operates completely independent of the electricity grid, working hard to conserve electricity and minimise their carbon footprint. Power is generated by diesel, hydro and solar energy and heated by a boiler.

Craigieburn in Winter
