TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR

“Waikirikiri Selwyn Winter Escape”

1. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these conditions of entry. Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.

ELIGIBILITY

The promotion is open to New Zealand residents aged 18 years or over. Employees of the Promoter and any agency involved with this promotion, and the immediate families of such employees, are not eligible to enter. Immediate family includes the spouse, defacto spouse, child, parent or sibling. Each participant may receive one standard entry and one bonus entry. Participants may only enter one prize package. Duplicate or multiple entries will be disqualified.

PROMOTION OVERVIEW

2. The Waikirikiri Selwyn Winter Escape (“the Promotion”) encourages participants to visit Selwyn.nz and build a winter Selwyn itinerary to be in for a chance to win a high-country escape to Lake Coleridge. 

  • Visitors select their preferred prize package.
  • They enter their email address to go into the draw.
  • Each participant may receive one standard entry and one bonus entry. Participants may only enter one prize package.

PROMOTION PERIOD

3. The promotion commences at 9.00am on 3 August 2026 and closes at 6.00pm on 16 August 2026 (“Promotional Period”). Entries received outside of this period will not be accepted.

PROMOTER

The promoter is Selwyn District Council, 2 Norman Kirk Drive, Rolleston, New Zealand (“the Promoter”).

HOW TO ENTER

4. To enter the promotion, eligible individuals must, during the Promotion Period, complete the following steps:

  • Visit selwyn.nz/win, choose the package that best suits your idea of the perfect winter break, and enter your email address. That’s it — you’re in the draw.
  • Three prize packages are available. Entries are limited to one package only.  
  • Participants may receive one bonus entry by completing an itinerary using the AI Itinerary Guide during the promotional period.
  • One winner for each of the three prize packages will be selected by random draw from all eligible entries received for that prize package.
  • At the end of the Promotion, all eligible participants will be randomly drawn on Monday, 17 August 2026 at 12pm at Selwyn District Council offices.
  • The draw will be conducted using a random selection process and witnessed by a representative of the Promoter.
  • The Promoter may provide the name and contact details of each confirmed winner to the Lake Coleridge Tourism Group and relevant prize providers solely for the purpose of coordinating and fulfilling the prize.

THE PRIZES

1. High Country Escape for Two

Total Prize Value: Approx. NZ$1,450 (plus Terrace Downs lunch once confirmed)

Includes:

  • Two nights' accommodation for two at Black Billy Hut, Washpen Falls
  • Entry to the Washpen Falls Adventure Walkway
  • Lunch at Terrace Downs (to the value of $100)
  • Half Day High Country Horse Trek for two 

2. Family Adventure Getaway for Four

Total Prize Value: Approx. NZ$1,381 (plus Terrace Downs lunch once confirmed)

Includes:

  • Two nights' accommodation for four at Middle Rock Farm Stay
  • Discovery Jet experience for four
  • Lunch at Terrace Downs (to the value of $100)
  • Archery experience 

3. Alpine Winter Adventure for Two

Total Prize Value: NZ$690

Includes:

  • One night's accommodation at Mt Olympus Lodge
  • Two full-day ski passes
  • Dinner on arrival
  • Breakfast
  • Lunch on the following day 

(Lunch on the day of arrival is not included and must be requested separately when booking.)

PRIZE CONDITIONS

High Country Escape for Two

  • Accommodation consists of a two-night stay for two people at Black Billy Hut, Washpen Falls, including entry to the Washpen Falls Adventure Walkway.
  • Accommodation is subject to availability and excludes public holiday weekends. 
    Winners must contact Washpen Falls directly to arrange a booking.
  • The High Country Horse Trek is subject to availability and suitable weather conditions.
  • Riders must arrive at 10.00am at Lake Coleridge Village.
  • Winners should allow approximately 5–5.5 hours for the experience.
  • Winners must provide their own warm clothing, suitable footwear and water bottle. Helmets are provided.
  • Tea/coffee and light refreshments are included. Lunch is not provided during the horse trek. 

Family Adventure Getaway for Four

  • Accommodation consists of a two-night stay for up to four people at Middle Rock Farm Stay.
  • Accommodation is subject to availability and excludes public holiday weekends.
  • Discovery Jet bookings are subject to river conditions, weather conditions and availability.
  • Discovery Jet timings may vary to fit with existing bookings.
  • Archery bookings are subject to operator availability. 

Alpine Winter Adventure for Two

  • Prize is valid from 1 August 2026 until 9 October 2026.
  • Bookings are subject to accommodation availability during the 2026 winter season.
  • Winners are responsible for monitoring snow, weather and road conditions before travelling.
  • A 4WD vehicle is recommended and snow chains must be carried.
  • Lunch on the day of arrival is not included unless requested separately when booking.

PRIZE CONDITIONS GENERAL

  • Winners are responsible for all travel to and from the prize destinations, fuel, insurance, incidental expenses, meals not specifically included, and any additional costs associated with redeeming the prize.
  • Where a prize component cannot be redeemed on the requested date due to weather, operational requirements or provider availability, that component may be rescheduled directly with the relevant prize supplier, subject to availability. Components of a prize package may be redeemed on different dates where necessary within the applicable validity period.
  • Prizes must be redeemed within the validity period specified by each prize supplier. Unused prizes will expire after this period and will not be replaced or extended.
  • The Promoter may provide the name and contact details of confirmed winners to the Lake Coleridge Tourism Group and relevant prize suppliers solely for the purpose of arranging and fulfilling the prize.
  • Prizes are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.
  • Prize packages will only be awarded to winners aged 18 years or over.
  • The Promoter reserves the right to substitute any prize with one of equal or greater value if required.

WINNER NOTIFICATION

  • The provisional winner(s) will be advised by email or the details provided on their entry. A provisional winner will only be deemed a winner once verified by the Promoter.
  • Winners’ names may be published on selwyn.nz and Selwyn NZ social media pages.
  • If a winner cannot be contacted within seven (7) days, the prize may be redrawn.

GENERAL

5. The prize is not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.

6. In the event that the prize is not collected within 7 days of the winner(s) being contacted, the Promoter reserves the right to redraw the prize under the original terms of the prize draw.

7. Once awarded, the Promoter is not liable for any part of the prize that has been lost, stolen, forged, damaged or tampered with in any way.

8. In the event that the prize becomes unavailable for any reason beyond the Promoter’s control, the Promoter may in its sole discretion decide to provide an alternative prize.

9. Neither the Promoter nor any other entity associated with this promotion will be responsible for any late, lost, misdirected, corrupted, incomplete or incorrectly submitted entries, including but not limited to entries not received due to technical problems or human error. The time entries are deemed to be made will be the time the entry is received, not the time the entry is submitted by an entrant. 

10. The Promoter reserves the right to disallow entries in its absolute discretion and without giving reasons. 

11. The Promoter may share entrant information, including name and contact details, with other persons or entities that assist in running the promotion.

12. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and determine the eligibility of entrants (including an entrant’s identity and age) and to disqualify an entry or refuse to award a prize where false or misleading details have been given by an entrant, or where an entrant has behaved in a fraudulent or dishonest manner, or otherwise than in accordance with these terms and conditions or the spirit of the promotion. 

13. The prize(s) will be presented at a time and place arranged by the Promoter. Arrangement may, at the discretion of the Promoter, be made to deliver the prize to an address in New Zealand.

14. Entrants acknowledge and agree that he or she will comply with all instructions given by employees of the Promoter and other agencies associated with this promotion and agree not to do anything that may bring the Promotor into disrepute. 

15. Entrants agree that as a condition of receiving the prize, he or she may be required to execute a waiver and indemnity in the form provided by the Promoter. 

16. If an entrant cannot accept the prize for any reason, that prize will be void and no compensation will be payable. 

17. Failure by the Promoter, to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

18. All decisions made by the Promoter, its employees or agents are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

19. The Promotor may amend, suspend or cancel any aspect of the promotion (including any prize/gift) at any time at its sole discretion.

20. Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the Promotor (including its officers, directors, shareholders, employees, advisors, assignees, agents, licensees, representatives, advertising and promotional agencies), excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity), whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the Promotion, including, but not limited to, where attributable to any of the following: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter’s control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (c) any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected; (d) any variation in the prize; any tax liability incurred by a claimant or entrant; or (f) use of a prize.

21. As a condition of participating in the promotion, the entrants indemnify the Promoter, all organisers, sponsors and all other persons and organisations associated in any way with the promotion against all claims, damages, liabilities, costs and expenses (including legal fees on a solicitor and client basis) which an entrant may incur arising out of their participation in the promotion and/or the travel and tour associated with it, howsoever caused. 

22. The Promoter collects and holds personal information provided by entrants for the purposes of this promotion.

23. The Promoter is not responsible for the safety, availability, or fulfilment of prizes supplied by third-party businesses. All prizes are subject to the terms and conditions of the supplying business.

24. The Selwyn NZ AI Itinerary Guide is an AI-powered assistant. Information is sourced from the community, and Selwyn District Council accepts no responsibility for the content provided. While this is a responsible AI tool, please do not share personal details such as credit card numbers, dates of birth, or other sensitive information. Before planning your trip, we recommend confirming the availability of events, activities, and opening hours directly with providers.

PRIVACY

25. In order to conduct this Promotion, the Promoter needs to collect personal information about each entrant and may for this purpose.

26. Personal information will be collected and used for the purposes of administering this Promotion, contacting winners, and delivering prizes. 

27. Where an entrant has expressly opted in by selecting the relevant checkbox(s) on the entry form:
a. the Promoter may use the entrant's contact details to send Selwyn NZ marketing communications, including travel inspiration, events, competitions and special offers; and/or 
b. the Promoter may provide the entrant's name and contact details to the Lake Coleridge Tourism Group so they can send information about accommodation, experiences, events and special offers.

28. The Promoter may provide the name and contact details of confirmed winners to the Lake Coleridge Tourism Group and relevant prize suppliers solely for the purpose of arranging and fulfilling the prize.

29. All personal details of entrants will be stored in accordance with the Privacy Policy. To view the Privacy Policy, please visit Selwyn District Council - Privacy Policy. All entries remain the property of the Promoter.
