This course is ideal for you if you want to get out and explore the backcountry and need a place to begin.
The course will give you the tools and knowledge required to make basic decisions on your own, and make you aware of how to increase your knowledge in the future. This course can also help if you’ve been into the backcountry a few times and want to solidify what you do and don’t know.
You should be relatively fit for this course, with previous hiking and trekking experience. You should be at least an intermediate skier/rider, capable of descending most ‘black’ rated terrain.
Course content/instruction topics:
- Essential (and non-essential) equipment and trip planning.
- Safe travel techniques and route planning.
- Uphill movement and skinning technique.
- Technique tips for skiing off-piste.
- Basic avalanche awareness and rescue.
- Mountain weather and navigation.
Cost: $640.00- Includes 2 day course, 3 cooked meals/day and 2 nights accommodation.
Audience: Competent skiers and snowboarders who are waiting to learn snow safety when accessing the backcountry.
