There's no access road to tackle, instead send your gear up on the Goods Lift and enjoy the stunning one hour hike to the lodges.

Set in the heart of the Southern Alps, three rope tows help you access the incredible terrain on offer, including surrounding peaks, ridges and mellow bowls. Temple Basin is renowned as the home of extreme skiing in New Zealand and you'll soon see why. There's plenty to offer for intermediate-advanced skiers and riders, as well as options for the adventurous beginner.

With incredible mountain views in every direction, Temple Basin is the perfect place to enjoy the stunning alpine environment, whether on foot, skis or simply relaxing in the comfort of the lodge.

Stay on the Mountain

Stay on the Main Divide of New Zealand's Southern Alps, at a ski-in, ski-out lodge with all the comforts of home. It's just a one hour walk from the carpark, with your gear riding on the goodslift, to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. The modern lodges offer large lounge and dining areas, a well-stocked bar, table tennis and board games, chef-cooked meals, hot showers, ski rentals, wifi and a drying room. Accommodation is in cozy private bunk rooms that sleep 4-6 people, with shared bathroom facilities.

Temple Basin Family Ski Week

Temple's ski and snowboard week packages (6 nights, 7 days) let you become part of the furniture, with plenty of time to relax and explore the mountain.

Staying on the mountain allows you to walk out of the door and directly onto the slopes. For kids looking to take their first runs on clubfield terrain, we recommend a few laps of Cassidy tow. Once they've found their feet, parents can relax on the ski hire terrace and watch their confidence grow on Temple Tow, perhaps while enjoying a beverage in the sun!

Stay in the lodge with a fully catered experience including breakfast, lunches and dinner. The lodge has a large common dining area with a staffed bar and a separate lounge with table tennis, craft supplies, dress-ups, board games and puzzles to keep the kids busy in the evenings.

3-Day Midweek Adventure

Escape the crowds and adventure into the Main Divide for a three-day ski/snowboard holiday, inclusive of two nights accommodation. 

Temple Basin is well off the beaten track and this package will get up into the mountains and be ready to ski and ride for three days.  

It's just a one hour walk up to the lodges from the carpark, with your gear travelling on the Goods Lift. Once up the track you'll be welcomed by stunning views, impressive terrain and friendly staff

Cost for 2 nights accommodation and all meals:  Adult $313 / Student $241 / Under 18 $175 / Under 11 $120 

Skiing: Non-member ski pass $85 per day / Member ski pass $50 per day / Kids under 11 ski for free

5-Day Midweek Adventure

If you are keen to stay a little longer and escape the hustle and bustle of city life, enjoy Temple Basin for 5 days and 4 nights midweek to avoid the crowds. Time it well with the latest snow storm cycle and you'll be scoring untracked fresh lines for days!

NZSSI Avalanche Awareness Course - Ski & Snowboard

The course is designed for individuals who spend time travelling in an alpine environment, outside of ski area boundaries, but have little or no experience with the avalanche phenomenon. The course focuses on defining avalanches, understanding and interpreting the NZ Avalanche Advisory and weather forecast, personal preparation, route decision-making and rescue skills.  

Cost & Booking: $640, which includes the course, accommodation Friday & Saturday nights, and all meals from dinner on Friday through to lunch on Sunday. Lift tickets not included ($85 per day).

Dates: 1-2 August, 15-16 August, and 12-13 September

Temple Basin Intro to Ski Touring

The course will give you the tools and knowledge required to make basic decisions on your own, and make you aware of how to increase your knowledge in the future. This course can also help if you've been into the backcountry a few times and want to solidify what you do and don't know.

You should be relatively fit for this course, with previous hiking and trekking experience. You should be at least an intermediate skier/rider, capable of descending most 'black' rated terrain.

Cost & Booking: $640, which includes the course, accommodation Friday and Saturday night, all meals from Friday night to Sunday lunch, and all instruction. Lift tickets are not included ($85 per day).

Dates: 22-23 August and 19-20 September

NZSSI Backcountry Avalanche - Ski & Snowboard

The course will suit those who have a basic understanding of avalanches (Avalanche Awareness) and have spent time travelling in alpine terrain as part of tramping trips, hunting, mountaineering, skiing, snowboarding or other outdoor experiences. It is not for beginners entering the alpine environment. A reasonable level of fitness is highly recommended.

Completion of this course will leave you feeling more confident in your ability to make safe decisions while travelling in the backcountry. It will give you the confidence and knowledge of how to seek out further information to further your knowledge on your own.

Cost & Booking: $1600, which includes all instruction and course materials, and all accommodation and meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) beginning with dinner the night before the course begins, and ending with lunch on the final day of instruction. Lift tickets not included ($85 per day)

Package Dates: 20-24 July, 5-9 August, 19-23 August, and 7-11 September

Mountain Skills for Skier & Riders

This course is ideal for you if: You are a strong intermediate to advanced skier/rider and want the necessary safety skills to begin exploring remote locations, including glaciated terrain, on skis/board. 

Course content/instruction topics: The course will focus on route finding and safe travel techniques, while improving your level of comfort at elevation under various snow conditions- with trip planning, navigation, uphill skinning technique, terrain analysis (avalanche awareness & travel around crevasses), and mountain weather & forecasting. Safety techniques such as avalanche rescue, emergency shelters & snow caves, will also be covered, basic anchors techniques, crevasse rescue and abseiling will be covered if time and group experience allow. 

Cost: $1700, which includes all meals from Sunday evening through until Friday lunch, accommodation from Sunday through Thursday nights. Lift tickets not included ($85 per day).
