Experience two of Canterbury's most beautiful country gardens during the inaugural Open Gardens Day on Saturday 14 November 2026, held over Canterbury Show Weekend.
Spend the day exploring the stunning gardens at Benlea and The Point Station, where visitors can wander picturesque pathways, enjoy family-friendly treasure hunts, relax with a picnic on the lawns, and browse plants, local artisan stalls and galleries.
Saturday 14th November 2026 (Show weekend) - 10am to 4pm
Two iconic large high country gardens are opening their gates for their inaugural “Windwhistle Wander”. Both situated on sheep and beef farms the gardens are brimming with interesting plants and landscapes, and stories to share.
There will be plants for sale, a few stalls, a gallery and a studio to find that perfect gift or memento to take home.
Bring a picnic to have on the lawn and enjoy the bird song, fresh air and peace and quiet.
Benlea - 728 Coleridge Road, Windwhistle
The garden at Benlea covers over one hectare of hillside and flat contours.The garden features mature trees, cottage style areas, NZ native plantings, large rock gardens and stunning scenery with many pathways to wander and a gallery to visit.
The Point Station - 85 Point Road, Windwhistle
The garden at The Point Station is set alongside the historic cob homestead built in the 1860’s, now celebrating 6 generations of the Richards family. It is a large rambling garden with huge mature trees, NZ natives and hundreds of Rhododendron plants including some that have been bred by the family, with many in flower in November. You will also find a studio here and some whimsical art installations created by the family.
