Western Edge Design - Jewellery with a Story to Tell

When becoming a new mum and rural life in Hororata collided, Amy Annan found herself on a creative journey that led her to silversmithing.

Always drawn to DIY and hands-on craftsmanship, Amy has never shied away from learning something new – whether it's making furniture for her home or experimenting with new materials. Her approach to jewellery-making was no different.

Western Edge Design began with a simple need for a creative outlet. Amy first started making resin shepherds’ whistles four years ago. This planted a seed of curiosity about silversmithing, and she was hooked. Teaching herself techniques online, her first piece was barbed wire inspired jewellery. Now, her designs celebrate the spirit of farm life, the symbols of western style, and the tools of the land, creating pieces that feel authentic, rugged and deeply personal.

Handmade

Every piece from Western Edge Design is crafted by Amy, from the inspiration through to the final polish. That personal, handcrafted touch is at the heart of what makes Amy’s silversmithing so special.

Heirlooms

An heirloom piece particularly close to Amy’s heart is her Western Buckle Cuff. More than just an accessory, this cuff was designed to become a future heirloom something to be worn, loved, and passed down through generations.

With its rustic design and nod to traditional western style, the cuff embodies the stories of those who came before, the beauty of Selwyn’s landscapes, and the enduring spirit of rural life. The shepherd’s whistle is another piece that Amy hopes will create as strong an emotional connection for its wearer as it did for her when she designed it.

The idea that something she has created will be treasured and passed down to future generations, fuels her creativity.

A Lasting Connection

At the heart of Western Edge Design is connection. A connection to the land, to the stories that shape it, and to the rural way of life.

Amy’s beautiful creations can be purchased online, or you can see them on display at the Artist In, Hororata.
