The annual Mt Olympus Alpine Curling event returns to the Playground of the Gods on Saturday, 8th August 2026. As featured on TVNZ’s Seven Sharp, this iconic high-country gathering brings locals and mountain enthusiasts together for a day of friendly competition and classic clubbie banter.
Set high on the frozen Tarn at 1,800 metres above sea level, teams will battle it out for the prestigious Mt Olympus Curling Trophy and ultimate bragging rights. Fancy dress is always encouraged, adding plenty of colour and laughs on the ice.
You do not even need to be a skier to join the action. For non-skiers and keen curlers wanting to experience the magic of the mountain, scenic helicopter transfers are available to book leaving from the Bottom Hut up to the Tarn. It is a spectacular way to arrive in pure alpine style.
Whether you're a seasoned curler or trying it for the first time, everyone is welcome. Arrive with a team or come on your own-we'll help place you in one. Fancy dress isn't required, but it's all part of the fun, so feel free to get creative! Bring your friends and family along for a fantastic day in the mountains, with activities suitable for all ages. While you need to be able to ski and use rope tows to get up to the Tarn, for the non-skiers, we are running helicopter lifts up from the Bottom Hut (and back at the end) so everyone can come along for day!
Come and enjoy a day of friendly competition, spectacular scenery, and great company in the Playground of the Gods. We look forward to seeing you on the ice!
To keep everyone warm and fuelled, hot soup and hearty sandwiches are available to pre-order for delivery tarn-side. Teams consist of four players, though solo entrants are welcomed and paired up on the day.
